Beta Alpha Psi:
Gamma Pi Chapter

Founded in 1919, Beta Alpha Psi is an international honor society for students and professionals having interests in financial information careers.  Today, there are more than 300 chapters on college and university campuses across the U.S. and beyond, and more than 300,000 individuals have been initiated into permanent BAP membership.

The primary purposes of BAP are to:

  • Encourage and recognize scholastic and professional excellence;

  • Provide an environment conducive to professional development;

  • Promote high ethical standards and a commitment to public and professional service; and

  • Provide an opportunity for outstanding students to interact regularly with each other and with outstanding professionals.  The American Institute of CPAs identifies Beta Alpha Psi among its “strategic alliances,” underscoring BAP’s prominence within the accounting profession.

NIU’s Gamma Pi Chapter was founded in 1971 and remains exclusive to accountancy majors, whereas the international organization now allows accounting, finance, and MIS majors.  For several consecutive years, NIU’s Gamma Pi has been recognized as a “Superior Chapter.”
